Sketchbook Pro Editing For Beginner.

I'm gonna show you how I draw in Sketchbook Pro. So this is the default layout let's just disable some useless stuff and enable the features you'll need like Layer Editor and Color Editor Ok, now let's arrange some tools I use Airbrush, Hard and Soft Erasers Hard and Soft Airbrush Some miscellaneous stuff and Hard Pencil After we arranged the tools, let's change some properties. All you need to do is maximize the Opacity with Hard pressure and soft pressure Also reduce Spacing to zero and finally change the texture too hard (on Hard Airbrush too) Now before we start drawing, you should try using the spacebar button Pressing the spacebar causes around tool to appear with a magnifying glass in the center It allows you to move around your canvas and zoom in and out.

It can also rotate the canvas this doesn't affect the picture itself, just the canvas Anyways, first of all, you gotta draw a sketch Drawing a sketch on the computer is hard, so that's why I drew a sketch on a paper Now, the first step is drawing the line art I suggest separating everything in layers face in one layer hair in another clothes and etc. Drawing line art with a mouse is really hard that's why there is a tool called "steady stroke" you can adjust the settings to make the string longer or shorter settings are right below the tool There is also a brush puck by clicking on it and holding the left click of the mouse you can adjust the opacity and size. Try it out yourself you will understand what I mean. "drawing Lineart is gonna take a lot of time" "so just turn on your favorite music and enjoy :D" The selection tool is very useful there are various types of selection like a lasso, magic wand and etc. By selecting an area you create a restriction area Everything that wasn't in the selection won't be affected by the brush pencil or eraser Well, you get the idea There's also a transformation tool.

I use it a lot it allows you to rotate the whole layer or just the selected area You can also change the size In selection tool options you can also add some additional selection areas or remove them there's also an invert option - this one allows you to reverse the selected area select everything you haven't selected. This might be confusing for you, but you'll get the idea once you experiment a little bit This one tool is called 'French Curve', it allows you to draw smooth lines there are times when you can't draw with 'Steady Stroke'. That's why there is a 'French Curve' you can change the size, rotate it, and even change the type. Now that we're done with the line art, we can start coloring. The coloring should be separated to different layers just like the line art skin, clothes, hair and highlights of hair must be done in different layers It's much easier and time-efficient. If you're wondering why it's easier and time-efficient it's because it's easier to shade, create shadows, fix your mistakes and etc in case you're wondering why I changed the background it's because that way I can see my mistakes more clearly You might have seen in the layer editor a small lock.

It's called lock transparency locking transparency allows you to draw only on the brush the transparent stuff which is the area that wasn't colored won't be affected by tools like pencil eraser, brush and etc This is very similar to 'Selection tool', but it's more efficient So the only tool for shading that I use is Airbrush lower the opacity to five or ten, and then choose the darker color. It might not be very practical, but that will do. For drawing shadows, we will need another layer with the properties of 'multiply' I don't use any different properties, well you can experiment with them If you want to.

So when you created a layer just choose the effect in the upper part of Layer Editor Choose effect 'Multiply' On this particular layer you gotta draw with a shade of gray that way it will create a decent shadow Just see for yourself the shadow will affect every color it lays on If there is any color underneath the shadow it will become darker Because multiply merges two colors Well might have forgotten to tell you about the layers you can move them up or down, that way some layers will be covered by others and etc. Shadows should be on top of everything experiment with this and you will understand how layers work So here's another awesome tool,

it's called Flood Fill There are several options in Flood Fill See for yourself To properly use the flood fill you gotta select the transparent area and then use the 'invert' option After this use the flood fill Anyways, I'm going to skip to the interesting part because my coloring is not the best I didn't even shade anything OK so half work of coloring is done Now you're probably wondering how I did the highlights I drew them on a separate layer and then I just selected the transparent area then I used the 'invert' option. And then I just used one of flood fill's options So now comes the best part in my opinion We're gonna color the lineart by using the 'lock transparency' option and because everything is separated in different layers this is gonna be awesome just watch and enjoy By the way, if you didn't know you can select several layers by pressing CTRL and then just clicking on a layer you want to select that way you can transform several layers silmultaneosly So that's pretty much it.
